Stress, Toxicity and Mitochondrial Health

Stress and toxicity are common causes of fatigue due to their impact on our mitochondria.1,2

Meeting the higher energy requirements of stress-induced oxidative reactivity is dealt with at a cellular level and involves mitochondrial sustainability. The processes involved include our neuroendocrine hormones and transmitters which affect mitochondrial energetics and well-being.1

Mitochondria play a significant role in our metabolic activity, and are highly vulnerable to being damaged from stress, environmental toxins, and other causes of oxidative damage in our bodies.2

Prolonged energy production demand on our mitochondria can result in DNA instability, increased production of reactive oxygen species, and impairment of our metabolic recovery.4 Our inner cellular environment, in particular our mitochondrial ‘electrical powerplant’ eventually impacts our energy levels, and the lifespan and survival of the cell.1,3

Patient Education Series - Understanding the Fight or Flight Stress Response

Join Emma Van Den Driest as she unpacks the biology of the fight or flight stress response, and explains the vital balance between the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems – understand better how chronic stress can contribute to long-term health challenges such as anxiety, fatigue, hormone imbalances, and more. Learn how your body reacts to perceived threats through the Sympathetic Nervous System, and why the ancient survival mechanism, and the misidentification of threats in our modern world, may be leading to nervous system dysregulation and is no longer functioning to protect us. This learning module encourages a better understanding of stress and how it can effect everything from digestion to immune function. Take charge of your nervous system, reduce the complications of chronic stress response activation, move back into parasympathetic dominance and find your calm.
